Album #361: I Tpame I Tvrame – Ikin Vijnë

  • Released: 2018
  • Origin: Tirana, Albania
  • Label: RaveWave/Oráculo
  • Best Track: Who You Used to Be

To Albania for the next entry. Whenever I listen to stuff from lesser-heard parts of the world, I always hope I’ll discover some gem the UK/US has completely overlooked.

Albanian/Kosovan post-punk/darkwave duo I Tpame I Tvrame may not quite be something to shake up the scene worldwide, but I really like this 2018 album – their only one to date – and would look out for more from them.

It leans towards krautrock in parts, such as the droning, minimalist intensity of ‘Scattered’, yet the (machine-created) drumming is pacey and energetic, creating a sound that I’m not sure is better suited to working out or zoning out.

With intensity and focus at its core, the best moments include the unsettling buzz of ‘Who You Used to Be’ and the trance qualities of ‘Sin’ on what is an intriguing and unique record.
