I’ve probably mentioned before that I’m not big on metal, but when mixed with other genres like hardcore and grunge, it can grab my attention. Helmet are a band that do it well, although I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to an album.
Their second LP Meantime, released in 1992, is perhaps their most appreciated album, including the ace single ‘Unsung’. It’s the outro that makes that song – absolutely breathtaking!
It’s an album full of powerful bangers to be fair, with the drumming on ‘Turned Out’ fantastic and the stop-start guitars of ‘FBLA II’ another golden moment. I really feel like this is something I should’ve listened to years ago, and don’t know why I didn’t.
Awesome record, and I suspect a good one to have started my Helmet adventure (snigger!) with.
PS: for the first time since I started this blog on January 7th, I am actually ON TRACK! With 25 days of the year to go, I have 25 albums to go. That’s not to say that it’s likely to be plain sailing for the remainder of 2020, especially with Christmas to come. Still, having been 15 behind at one point, I’m pretty happy with it!!
