A fourth album from this comically named funky indie band from South Africa.
Desmond is largely enjoyable. Opening track ‘Hard Work’ reminds me of a lot of what Parquet Courts did on their last album. Other tracks, like ‘Magazines’ function almost as instrumentals with their slap bass elements, while ‘Ladybug’ appears to compare a women to a garden bug, or is it literally about the insect (“All the other bugs in the garden either stink or sting”)? Nice song either way.
A lot of the other tracks I can take or leave, but they seem a fun band with musical talent.
