One of those bands now that I’ve heard the name of, and expect I will like, but I’ve never got round to lending them my ears.
Failure’s debut album Comfort is a wonderfully grungy/noise-rocky affair. Plus it was engineered by Steve Albini, who could make a McFly album sound cool.
His influence is most notable on the grinding, squawky guitars of ‘Swallow’ and ‘Muffled Snaps’, but it’s second track ‘Macaque’ I like best with those incessant, math rock riffs.
Reminiscent of ’90s contemporaries like Jawbox and Quicksand, it’s a top album and one that makes me want to dive into Failure further.
