Time for a review of another slightly obscure shoegaze album that’s been brought to my attention.
Sleep Through It is the only full-length album to date from Maryland five-piece Wildhoney. First thing to say is I like the singer, Lauren Shusterich. Her voice is dreamy yet pronounced, allowing it to hover over the music rather than blend into it.
Songs are generally solid, save a couple of fillers. Highlights include opener ‘Fall In’, the fairground-like chimes of ‘Owe Your Nothing’, and in particular the thick melee of ‘Seventeen’.
It would be generous to say this is anything more than a decent shoegaze record, but that’s good enough for me.
