Looks like there was quite a lot I missed in April, including this soaring debut from an exciting Chicago post-punk band.
I’ve only had time to listen to Change Is Bad once all the way through, but in short, it’s right up my street. This is paranoid, urgent post-punk, bringing together the complexity and wonky time signatures of Fugazi (particularly on ‘Invisible Wall’) with the abrasive, off-key tones of Big Black.
I’ve picked out the awesome ‘Wrong Question’ as a favourite track, its riff reminding me of Minor Threat’s ‘Bottled Violence’, although I think it may grow to be the slow, menacing ‘Anniversary’, which broods and burns into this bone-splitting crescendo.
Half an hour very well spent indeed.
