Here’s an album I found completely by mistake while looking for something else. I read up on the band, and with their Wikipedia page saying they’ve been compared to the likes of Pixies and Mudhoney, plus the fact that the album was only released last month, I though it was worth a shot.
Aussie grungy alt-rockers Violent Soho are new to me, but Everything Is A-OK is their fifth LP and they seem a big thing in their home country, with this being their second Australian number one album.
I’m struggling to pick a favourite track, but I don’t think there’s a weak one either. It’s just a decent album throughout, with welcome changes of pace and volume between songs. I am picking up the Mudhoney vibes in songs like ‘Canada’ and ‘Pity Jar’, but I’d point more to Pavement as an influence on the superb and more lo-fi ‘Slow Down Sonic’ which, if pushed, is my favourite track.
From my point of view, it’s not a bad accidental find at all. If only I could remember what I was actually searching for!
